Cacao Strawberry Energy Balls (vegan & gluten-free)

Cacao Strawberry Energy Balls (vegan & gf)

The recipe for these Cacao Strawberry Energy Balls was one I posted on my Instagram account recently. It was so popular that I decided it needed a permanent home on the blog! Made with raw cacao, fresh strawberries and ground almonds, they're a delicious and nutritious snack for anytime of day.

I love energy balls, but as someone who is sensitive to sugars (even natural ones), I get frustrated that they usually rely on a lot of dates for sweetness. Don't worry, I'm not picking on dates - I love them and think they're a brilliant sweetener! But I also like to have low-glycemic options when it comes to sweetening my snacks. These Cacao Strawberry Energy Balls are sweetened only with strawberries and goji berries. They're great for people on anti-Candida diets and those who try to avoid high sugar foods. If you follow a low glycemic diet, these are for you! But equally, if you're not concerned about sugar content and like a sweeter snack, you can adapt them - just see my note below.

These energy balls are packed with protein and healthy fats to help keep your blood sugar stable. They'll also provide a good dose of vitamins and minerals. You'll find lots of magnesium in the cacao and iron in the hemp seeds and goji berries. Finally, they're really quick to make, taking only 10 minutes to throw together. Store them in the fridge or freezer until needed, if you can manage not to eat them all!

  • These energy balls can be bitter if the strawberries you use aren't that sweet! If you prefer a sweeter snack, simply add 1 tbsp maple syrup, coconut nectar or agave, or ¼ tsp stevia powder to the mix before you shape the balls.
  • You can also roll the balls in cacao powder if you want to create a more interesting look!
