How to Make Date Paste (vegan & gluten-free)

Looking for a natural sweetener that's full of nutrients? If you've ever wondered how to make date paste, this simple, 2-ingredient recipe is for you.

  • 1 tightly packed cup pitted dates
  • ¾ cup hot, recently boiled water (it doesn't need to be boiling)


  • Ensure all your dates are pitted, and add them to a medium-sized bowl.
  • Cover them with ¾ cup hot water and leave to soak for 15 minutes.
  • Transfer the dates AND water to a high speed blender and blend for about 1 minute. You may need to scrape the sides of the blender down during this time, then continue blending.
  • It really helps with this recipe if you turn the power up to high as soon as possible - this helps the dates break down faster and get less stuck in the bottom of the blender.
  • Once your dates are blended to a smooth paste, that's it!
  • Store your date paste in a glass jar in the fridge until ready for use. You can also freeze it.
