This Berry Smoothie Bowl is a winner! If you're someone who doesn't like bananas in your smoothies, or doesn't like them overly sweet, this is for you.
Don't get me wrong, I love a banana-based smoothie, but sometimes I want something less sweet with a slightly different taste for breakfast, and this recipe is my go-to.
Made with mixed berries and sweetened only with two dates, this bowl also sneakily manages to get in a couple of portions of vegetables. You'll find you don't taste the kale or riced cauliflower, but get all the benefits of these nourishing veggies (extra vitamin, fibre etc.) while enjoying a delicious-tasting smoothie.
Perfect for those who love a less sweet breakfast, this berry smoothie will set you up for the day!
No Banana Berry Smoothie Bowl - Notes on the Recipe
I recommend using riced cauliflower for this smoothie bowl as it blends a little more easily than cauliflower florets or pieces. You can usually buy these frozen in places like Costco. And I promise you won't be able to taste it! The cauliflower just helps to add texture and thickness to the smoothie bowl (plus a load of extra nutrients).
For protein powder, you can use any you wish but I'd recommend using an unflavoured variety. (I personally really like Omega Nutrition's Pumpkin Protein Powder as I find it has no taste and no weird texture. Plus you only need to use a small amount per serving, so it doesn't overpower the smoothie!)
No Banana Berry Smoothie Bowl (vegan)
- 1¼ cups frozen mixed berries (I like to use a mix of raspberries, strawberries & blackberries)
- ½ heaped cup frozen riced cauliflower (I buy this from Costco)
- 1 large kale leaf
- 2 medjool dates (or 3 regular dates)
- 3 tbsp hemp seeds
- 1 scoop your favourite protein powder
- Add all ingredients to a blender with 1 cup water.
- Blend on high for 30 seconds and pour into a bowl.
- Top with berries, shredded coconut and cacao nibs. Enjoy!
